ICCF Breaks Ground on Affordable Condominiums at The Seymour
ICCF Community Homes hosted a groundbreaking celebration on Thursday, August 8 for The Seymour, a transformative affordable housing initiative in the Alger Heights neighborhood, with remarks from Congresswoman Hillary Scholten and Michigan State Senator Winnie Brinks. This $14 million development represents a significant step forward in addressing the housing needs of our community through the conversion of a vacant, former school building into 27 affordable condominium homes.
ICCF purchased the Seymour property from long-time partner and supporter Tabernacle Church in February 2020. Partnering with developer ICCF are architects DeStigter Architecture and Engineering, general contractor Wolverine Building Group, and many generous funding supporters including IFF, Cinnaire, the City of Grand Rapids, Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), and a federal appropriations grant supported by Representative Hillary Scholten.
- Renovations and additions will create 27, two-story condominiums averaging 1,500 SF with 2–3 bedrooms per unit
- 14 homes will be sold to households at or below 80% Area Median Income (AMI)
- 13 homes will be sold to households at or below 120% AMI
- A portion of the units will be sold through ICCF’s Community Homes Land Trust, ensuring the homes remain affordable for generations of first-time homeowners (iccf.org/CHLT)
“After years of planning, we’re confident The Seymour will play a vital role in expanding homeownership opportunities for neighbors across our community, embodying ICCF’s commitment to creating sustainable and inclusive housing solutions,” shared Ryan VerWys, CEO of ICCF Community Homes.
