VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES |
Family Haven Homeless Shelter: Volunteers are needed in various areas such as: Teaching life-skills workshops, post move-out mentoring, clothing pantry organizer, and food pantry organizer. Volunteers are also needed as: readers and storytellers for children, coordinators of arts and crafts activities for children and a summer vacation bible school program for resident children. Volunteers can also be involved in a number of other efforts such as: Adopt-a-family for the holidays with food, clothing and gifts; Adopt-an-apartment by cleaning and restocking apartments for new residents; General maintenance tasks; Cleaning crew for the apartments after a family leaves.
Rental Program: Volunteers are needed to: Coordinate a summer children’s program, an after school program using MSU extension’s 4C’s Clubs model, or a youth mentoring program (Big Brother, Big Sister). Volunteers are also needed to coordinate holiday events such as: Adopt-a-Family, Christmas gathering, Christmas tree trimming program, Advent angel tree program, and Christmas food baskets. Home Ownership Preparation Education Program: Volunteers are need to facilitate home ownership classes covering topics such as: taxes, investments, insurance, mortgage process, crime prevention, neighborhood associations, wall repair and painting, electrical and furnace maintenance/repair; and landscaping. Volunteers are also needed to help with childcare during education classes and Home Buyers Club and for translating documents from English to Spanish and French. Construction: Volunteers are in the following fields are needed: Licensed skilled contractors/laborers, landscaping, painting, masonry, dry walling, electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, and unskilled general labor. General Office: Volunteers are needed for: Typing, filing, photocopying, data entry and assistance with mailings.
